Preity Zinta wasn’t happy with the third umpire’s decision in PBKS vs DC match© BCCI/Sportzpics
Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta was disappointed after her team’s loss to Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 match on Saturday. The defeat significantly impacted their chances of securing a top-two spot in the points table. PBKS needed a win to keep their qualification hopes in their own hands, but the loss now leaves them dependent on other teams’ results. Zinta, who watched the match closely, claimed that a crucial error by the third umpire contributed to the defeat.
During the 15th over of the first innings, PBKS batter Shashank Singh appeared to have hit a six off Mohit Sharma. Karun Nair, fielding near the boundary, attempted to catch the ball but signaled that it was a six, as his foot touched the boundary rope. However, the third umpire reviewed the footage and found no conclusive evidence of Nair’s foot touching the rope, resulting in only a single run being awarded.
Zinta expressed frustration after the match, stating that Nair himself confirmed it should have been a six. She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “In such a high-profile tournament with so much technology available to the third umpire, such mistakes are unacceptable. I spoke to Karun after the game, and he confirmed it was definitely a six. I rest my case! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025.”
Despite Nair’s confirmation, the third umpire’s decision left the Punjab Kings camp confused. The loss means PBKS must now rely on their final league match against Mumbai Indians to secure a top-two finish, while Delhi Capitals also remain in contention.
